Fr. Renato A. Tampol, SVD, PhD

Fr. Renato A. Tampol, SVD, PhD is the President of the Divine Word College of Calapan and former President of the Divine Word College of San Jose in Occidental Mindoro. He is a seasoned HR generalist who believes that “we take care of our employees and they will love and enrich our organization.” Fr. Tampol earned his Doctor of Philosophy in Human Resource Management (Magna Cum Laude) from the University of Santo Tomas in 2021, with a dissertation on integrating organizational culture and HR practices in SVD educational institutions. He also holds an MBA from De La Salle University-Dasmariñas and a Master of Arts in Theology (Cum Laude) from Divine Word Seminary in Tagaytay, along with an ecclesiastical degree earned with honors.

His early education includes a Bachelor of Science in Commerce from Divine Word University of Tacloban, where he was a working student and scholar. He completed his secondary education at Carigara National High School as First Honorable Mention and graduated Valedictorian from Sogod Elementary School.

Fr. Tampol has held numerous leadership roles within the SVD system and in affiliated educational and religious institutions. He served as Provincial Treasurer of SVD-PHC and as Vice President for Finance and HR Director at the Divine Word College of San Jose. He was also a missionary and lecturer in Zimbabwe between 2002 and 2005.

Professionally, Fr. Tampol has made significant contributions to the field of education, particularly in Catholic and private higher education in the Philippines. His work focuses on aligning human resource systems with institutional culture to promote holistic development and operational excellence in schools. Through his leadership, research, and policy initiatives, he has advocated for the standardization of HR practices across SVD institutions, contributing to improved governance and educational quality. He has mentored academic and administrative leaders, spearheaded strategic planning processes, and championed inclusive education through community outreach programs like the Mangyan Education Center.

He is actively involved in various professional and civic organizations. He is the National Treasurer of PRISAA, President of PRISAA MIMAROPA, President of Mindoro Association of Catholic and Indigenous Schools (MACIS), President of One Mindoro Association of Higher Educational Institutions (OMAHEI) and a long-time member of CEAP, PACSB, and AASHPI. He served as Transformational President of the Rotary Club of San Jose Downtown and held leadership roles in PART and the Regional Tripartite Industrial Peace Council of MIMAROPA.

A prolific scholar and conference speaker, Fr. Tampol has published multiple research papers in international journals. His works focus on organizational culture, HR practices, and development challenges in higher education and community enterprises. He has presented at international conferences and led research on topics ranging from the integration of HR practices in SVD schools to feasibility studies on local industries such as aquaculture and salt production.

Fr. Tampol has also undergone extensive training and professional development through seminars and programs by AIM, AASHPI, PACSB, CEAP, and other academic institutions, focusing on HR trends, academic leadership, and educational transformation in response to national and global changes.
