About SCJ

In the year 2009, the degree of Bachelor of Science in Criminology was offered in DWCC under the Liberal Arts Department headed by Mr. Dennis S. Alcaraz. In 2012, BS Criminology was separated from the Liberal Arts Department and placed under an independent department called Criminology Department, headed by Ms. Janenovelle A. Cuenca (who served as its Department Dean up to the present), in compliance with the requirements for the continuous offering of the said degree. It was in the same year that the Criminology Department had undergone and passed an inspection conducted by the Regional Quality Assessment Team, represented by Dr. Venus Andoy.

In the year 2013, Ms. Janenovelle A. Cuenca was appointed as one of the members of the Regional Selection and Screening Committee for applicants of the Philippine National Police in MIMMAROPA. It was also in the same year that DWCC Criminology Department offered its own in-house and formal review for board examination. The first batch of graduates took the Criminology Board Examination and set a precedent passing rate of 100%, a record that is yet to be surpassed. Since then, the Criminology Department had been setting a yearly board examination passing rate that is way beyond the national passing rate, and in various occasions became the number one school of criminology in the province and one among the best in the entire region when it comes to board examination passing rate.

The Criminology Department has also hosted and participated several international and local seminars, like the seminar on “Enhancing Data Safety in the 21st Century”, conducted at the DWCC Audio-Visual Room on September 22, 2017, with Dr. Stephen P. Cutler, a renowned international speaker and former member of the US Federal Bureau of Investigation as resource person.

In the year 2019, the Criminology Department was renamed School of Criminal Justice in compliance with the mandate of the Commission on Higher Education, for the possible offering of other courses under it. At present, more than 90% of the graduates of DWCC School of Criminal Justice are employed in stable jobs, most of them are in different law enforcement agencies, primarily the Philippine National Police.

With its fame as one of the best schools of criminology in the province and the region, the School of Criminal Justice keeps on expanding with a dramatic increase in the population of its students every school year.
