The Grade School building houses 6 classrooms with comfort room each. During the school year 2011-2012 all Grade School classrooms including kinder and SPED were fully air-conditioned.

Brief History

The Divine Word College of Calapan Grade School started operating in the school year 1964-65 by virtue of Temporary Permit No. 96, series of 1964, eighteen years after the foundation of the Mindoro Junior College in 1946.

A complete Elementary Course was opened with one section per class to a total enrolment of 125. Six teachers, all BSEED graduates of the then Mindoro College handled the classes with Lourdes T. Agay as Principal and Reverend George Harwardt, SVD as Director. One of the purposes for the opening of the Grade School was to serve as a training school for student teachers of the BEED course of the college as required by the Department of Education, Culture and Sports, a service which is still performs to date. Government Recognition No. 56, series of 1965 recognized the Grade School in the SY 1965-66. During the SY 1967-68 the College transferred to its new building at main college compound at Tibag. The Preparatory Course was opened in the SY 1968-69 under Temporary Permit No. 48, series of 1969. 

To cater to the needs of the special children, DWCC adopted DAPO, school for special children located at Calero, Calapan City. When the school adopted it in the school year 1989-1990, it was transferred to the main college campus. It offered three classes: educable mentally handicapped, trainable mentally handicapped, and hearing impaired class.

In the SY 2003-2004 the Grade School Department transferred to its new campus, St. Joseph Freinademetz Campus at Tibag-Pachoca joining the High School Department due to the expansion program in the College Department.

School Year  2006-2007 marked the merging of Grade School and High School Departments into Basic Education Department with Mrs. Cornelia C. Perez as the Principal and Fr. Samuel Agcaracar, SVD as director.

During the school year 2012-2013, the school implemented the K to 12 Basic Education Program. Preparatory Course or Senior Kindergarten became part of the Basic Education. The school then offered another program, the Preschool or Junior Kindergarten with 8 enrollees in the morning session. Kids who were 4 years of age were admitted in this program.

On June 5, 2017, the Basic Education applied for PAASCU accreditation. Preliminary visit was conducted  by some PAASCU accreditors on August 23-24, 2018. PAASCU granted the Basic Education Program a candidate status on December 18, 2018, four months after the preliminary visit.

The grading system of the Grade School was adapted from DepEd Order No. 031, series of 2020 with deviation from the transmutation table used by the public schools.
